Woman dies after Jeep overturns on I-81 near Kingsport

The Kingsport Police Department confirms Brenda Fatherree died from her injuries. Police say the investigation into the incident continues.


UPDATE: 8:52 p.m.

According to the Kingsport Police Department, the traffic unit was called to the scene of an accident with injuries on Interstate 81, near mile marker 56.8, around 6:00 Sunday night.

An investigation revealed a 2001 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Interstate 81. The driver, Albert Fatherree, "made a maneuver for an unknown reason to the right near mile marker 56.8 and lost control."

The Jeep went into the grass area, and rolled. Passenger Brenda Fatherree was ejected from the Jeep. Both the driver and passenger were taken to Holston Valley for treatment of injuries.

The investigation, conducted by the traffic unit, is ongoing.


Kingsport Dispatch confirms one lane of traffic is shut down on the southbound lane of I-81, near the I-26 interchange, due to a car crash.
