Initiatives and recognitions

Co-founder of a city-wide, award-winning health initiative, "Up & At 'Em!" – (which received several state wide awards including the Governor's "Shining Star Award" ; and the 2007 Havlick Award for Innovation in local government ) - and the highly successful Thanksgiving morning "Turkey Trot Family 5K Race and Family Fun Walk," a direct programming result of Up and at Em. Also initiated the "Fit to Play" camp at the Parks and Recreation summer playground program; assisted with the development of the "Color My World Healthy" with Medical Library of East Tennessee State University at Carver Recreation Center.

Created for more open government during her mayoral term held "Tuesday Talks" and morning coffee with the mayor at the JC Public Library; initiated "Day of Service" cleanup projects with local business, churches. Developed and held an Employment Information Workshop to assist local citizens in employment pursuits and career opportunities.

Recipient of the Johnson City, Jonesborough, Washington County Area Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame Award for 2008.
