Fatal crash under investigation in Johnson City

Johnson City, TN -

A person died in a car crash Wednesday evening in Johnson City.

Police say the wreck happened in the 1100 block of East Lakeview drive just after  5 p.m..

Investigators say the driver of a Jeep Laredo approached a Chevy Blazer from behind at a very high rate of speed, tried to pass the Blazer in a no-passing zone, and hit a utility pole snapping it in half.

The Jeep flipped and landed on its top.

The driver of the Jeep died in the crash.

The Johnson City Police Traffic Homicide Team is still working the case tonight.
