HONEA PATH, SC - A man was killed after a bale of hay fell and crushed him.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. at a home on Holiday Dam Road in Honea Path.

According to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown, 54-year-old David William Knight was pronounced dead just after 9 a.m. after his son found him pinned beneath a large hay bale. McCown said that Knight went down to his pasture around 7:30 a.m. to feed his cows like he normally did before going to church. However, when he did not return, his wife sent his son to check on him.

McCown said that it appears that Knight was loading a 800-1,000 pound bale of hay on his tractor when the hay rolled down the tractor and pinned him in his seat. Knight died as a result of asphyxiation.

Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson said that firefighters from the Friendship Fire Department responded to assist EMS.
