Facebook post prompts investigation into activity at local KFC

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON CITY, TN -

A photo of a KFC employee that made it look as if the employee was licking a tub of mashed potatoes was posted on the News Channel 11 Facebook page last week and the response has been overwhelming- more than 2,000 shares and 700 comments, the number growing larger by the minute.

We wanted to learn more about the photo, and what action the store was taking in response to the employee's actions.

KFC's corporate headquarters responded to us via email, saying nothing is more important to the chain than food safety, and as soon as the franchisee became aware of the issue, action was taken immediately.

This was the response from KFC:

------------

Thanks for the call.

Nothing is more important to KFC than food safety. As soon as our franchisee became aware of the issue, immediate action was taken. The franchisee's investigation confirmed the photos were taken after the restaurant was closed and none of the food was served. The employee involved was immediately terminated. Today, KFC Corporation is sending representatives from our Operations and QA teams to the restaurant to reinforce and retrain on KFC's high operating standards.

Thanks for the follow up.

I can confirm the employee in the photos has been terminated, but it wouldn't be appropriate for us to name her. The employee who took the photos is no longer with the company either. They were not managers.

You can access restaurant inspections at this link: http://dogwood.healthspace.com/tdh

The Johnstown {Johnson City} KFC has not had a critical violation during a Health Department visit in their past six inspections, including their most recent inspection in November.

Thanks again for the follow-up.
