Tennessee High student recognized prior to Saturday's race

BRISTOL, TN- In August, Bristol Motor Speedway announced it was creating the Dale Jr. Scholarship, which would be given to a Sullivan County student annually that wants to go into the automotive industry. This week, Tennessee High student, Jaicee Weaver, was named the first recipient of the award.

Weaver was recognized prior to the start of Saturday's Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 and is still in disbelief she won.

"It was shocking to me that a girl could win it over a guy, since it's such a male dominated thing to be interested in," said Weaver.

It's been an exciting week for the Tennessee High student, who got a surprise visit from Dale Jr. earlier this week on a trip to JR Motorsports.

"He was a lot nicer and more humble than you would expect anyone to be like that," said Weaver. "Everyone was wondering why I didn't freak out, but the truth is he's just normal like me and you. Going to decide between auto body, because I'm really interested in painting, or going into the motorsports. After touring JR Motorsports it made me a little more interested in the motorsports aspect of things."
