Missing man in Abingdon, Va. turns self into deputies, jailed on violation of probation charge

News Channel 11 Staff - UPDATE: Washington County, Va. Sheriff's Office officials confirmed a man who had been missing since Sunday from the Greendale Home for the Aged turned himself into deputies at the Halls Bottom Dollar General store, located at 16522 Lee Highway in Bristol, Va. Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Fred Newman said Thomas L. Edson, Jr. was then taken to the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., where he was being held on a probation violation for an armed robbery that took place in Chesapeake, Va.

ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) - Authorities in southwest Virginia need your help finding a missing Washington County, VA man.

Thomas Lawford Edson, 41, was last seen at the Greendale Home for the Aged in Abingdon, VA around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

It's not known how he left the facility or if someone picked him up.

Edson is described as having blonde hair, blue eyes, a mustache and is said to be around 5'7" and weighs 200 pounds.

He was last seen wearing multiple layers of clothes -- including a blue jacket, jeans and several hoodies.

Washington County sheriff Fred Newman said in a release he has "violent tendencies".
