GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - A Greene County woman reported missing more than a week ago has been found dead in Loudon County, TN, the victim of a car crash.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office found the body of Diana Guzman, 20, just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Detective Michelle Holt told News Channel 11 a TDOT worker found a wallet alongside Interstate 40 at the Interstate 75 interchange on Friday and turned it in to TDOT officials.
Saturday morning, the TDOT employee saw a news report about the search for Diana Guzman and recognized the name from the wallet found Friday.
Sunday, News Channel 11's Justin Soto took a look at the crash report and discovered that Guzman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She lost control of her car around a curve, went off the roadway and rolled several times into a heavily wooded area, she was ejected from the car.
Detective Holt said that if it wasn't for that TDOT worker, detectives still might not have known what happened to Guzman.
"It took that TDOT worker connecting the name to the missing person and him to call. There was no way to see the car where you were driving down the road, even a helicopter there's no way to see it," Detective Holt said.
Detective Holt also said that that Diana's cousin Julio Guzman, who works for Johnson City Police got with AT&T and mapped out her drive that evening based on where her cell phone pinged.
The last ping was right where Interstate 40 and 75 split which in combination with the TDOT worker's findings, gave detectives and Tennessee Highway Patrol a better idea of where to search. Holt says detectives found Guzman's car off an embankment in a heavily wooded area. Guzman's body was found at the scene of the crash.
"Her wallet must have fallen out of the car as it ran off the road," Holt said.
The grim discovery ended a search that began last Friday night when Guzman's family reported her missing.
The last time anyone saw Guzman was at her home in Chuckey, TN on Wednesday, August 10th. Her cell phone was last detected early the next morning.
Investigators believe Guzman was traveling to Loudon County to visit her boyfriend, but she never arrived.
Her family, the Greene County Sheriff's Office, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation searched for Guzman for more than a week.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All Rights Reserved.
