Multiple fires in Roan Mountain area; 90% contained

News Channel 11 Staff - ROAN MOUNTAIN, TN (WJHL) - Forestry Technician, James Heaton with the Tennessee Division of Forestry tells News Channel 11 crews are preparing to go back to the scene.

Heaton told us on Sunday night,  "Right now we are in a holding pattern. "We are letting everything burn and consume away from our fire lines until it eventually goes out.

At the moment, both fires are 90% contained and are still holding within the lines, said Heaton.

No homes are in danger. However, the flames did reach part of Roan Mountain State Park at one point.

The fires are being investigated by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and the United States Forestry Service.

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) - Firefighters are responding to multiples fires in the Roan Mountain area of Carter County, Tenn.

Forestry Technician James Heaton tells News Channel 11 crews are still battling flames that have combined to about 65 acres and they're still actively burning.

The fire is burning close to the Roan Mountain State Park line but has not crossed into the park. Hogum Hollow Road was closed but has since reopened, according to dispatchers.

No homes are in danger at this hour.

Heaton says there is mountain land burning right now, the fires are being investigated by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Crime Unit and the U.S. Forest Service.
