Bristol Tenn. Police say two people being interviewed for connection to fatal Walmart shooting

UPDATE 4:03 a.m.- Bristol Tenn. Police told us they're still following up on leads and asking for the public's help to learn more information about who shot and killed 43-year-old Michael Heatherly of Bristol.

Police said they believe the shooting was targeted and that they do not feel the public is in danger. Two persons have been interviewed and remains persons of interest in the case.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.- Bristol Tenn. Police told us that two people were pulled over in Washington County, Va. by Virginia State Police and are now being interviewed at the Bristol Tennessee Police Department.

Virginia State Police reportedly saw a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle involved in the shooting this afternoon at a Walmart on Volunteer Parkway.

Authorities in Washington County, Va. told us earlier that an arrest had been made in the investigation, but later Bristol Tennessee Police told us that no charges and arrests have been made.

We'll continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 8:24 p.m.- Washington County, Va. Sheriff Fred Newman said at least one person is in custody for their connection to the fatal  shooting at the Walmart on Volunteer Parkway this afternoon.

UPDATE 8:00 p.m.: Washington County Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman confirmed with News Channel 11 that Virginia State Police have spotted and stopped a suspect vehicle in connection with the shooting at the Walmart in Bristol.

The sheriff said the vehicle was spotted near Old Jonesborough Road. That's near Exit 13 off Interstate 81. This is a developing story. Stay with for updates.

UPDATE: Bristol Police Department Office officials confirmed that Michael Heatherly, 43, of Bristol, the victim in the shooting, has died.

Maj. Matt Austin said that Heatherly was shot while walking to his vehicle Friday afternoon.

Heatherly was then taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Austin said police are currently following up on leads on a potential person of interest, but no arrests have been made.

BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) - Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus and Bristol Tennessee Police Department officials confirmed to News Channel 11 that there was a shooting at Walmart on Volunteer Parkway Friday afternoon.

According to a Bristol, Tenn. Police Department news release, officers responded to the parking lot of Walmart, located at 220 Century Blvd. in Bristol, Tenn., just after 3 p.m.

When officers arrived they found a male victim on the ground next to a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Bristol Tenn. Police are asking anyone with information to call the police department at 423-989-5600.

Our reporter Caroline Corrigan is at the scene and she said she is seeing caution tape up in the parking lot of the Walmart, as well as eight detectives surrounding a car in the roped off section of the parking lot.

Two fire trucks are also on-scene.
