ETSU board to hold special meeting to discuss termination appeal of Dr. Champouillon

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - Wednesday, members of the East Tennessee State University Board of Trustees Executive Committee will consider a termination appeal from a former ETSU faculty member.

The review of Dr. David Champouillon will take place during a special called meeting.

Dr. Brian Noland fired him in May 2017 after an internal investigation revealed Dr. Champouillon sexually harassed two faculty members and behaved inappropriately in front of faculty and students.

At a meeting back in August, the committee discussed the former professor's appeal but made no decisions. It did decide to seek guidance from an attorney from the University of Memphis.

Dr. Champouillon's appeal argued even if the allegations against him were true - they were protected under free speech.

A decision on dr. Champouillon's appeal could be announced Wednesday.
