Autopsy: 15-week-old fetus found in Johnson City waste water intake

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) - Johnson City police revealed, just moments ago, that preliminary autopsy results indicate that a fetus found in a waste water intake was approximately 15 weeks old.

Pathologists say the fetus was about six inches in length and they say the "death is intrauterine --  as there were no signs of air in the fetus' lungs or stomach".

The fetus was ruled as "pre-viable from the autopsy", said pathologists.

The remains were found on Saturday by workers with the Johnson City Water and Sewer Department. They were found in the city's waste water treatment facility located at 857 Riverview Drive.

The city says the fetus was found in the intake flows that services the areas south of Science Hill High School into Milligan Highway/Sinking Creek Road area.

Meanwhile, Johnson City police are concerned about the well being of the mother. They ask if you know who she may be to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 423-434-6166 or can make an anonymous tip through Crimestoppers at 423-434-6158.

The police department says anonymous and confidential tips can also be submitted by texting  423JCPD and your tip to 847411 (TIP411) or send a tip to www.citizenobserver.com.
